TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -The City of Tallahassee is working to ease restrictions on accessory dwelling units (ADU) on existing properties.
AUDs, also known as granny flats or mother-in-law suits, are 1-bed 1-bath homes.
Last week, the city commission voted unanimously to make it easier to build the AUDs. The units can now increase in size, have their own separate addresses and utility connections.
With the ordinance, the cityβs goal is to provide more affordable housing options for renters.
Commissioner Jack Porter said the city has been hearing several concerns from residents regarding the units being used as vacation rentals, resulting in high traffic in the neighborhoods.
